Requesting assistance at Cayman’s Airports if you have a non-visible disability

Traveling can be challenging, especially if you have a disability that is not immediately visible to those around you.

The Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) is committed to making your airport journey smoother and more inclusive. That’s why we are proud to join the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower programme, a globally recognised initiative that discreetly signals when a traveller may need extra assistance, time, or understanding.

This programme is now available at Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA) on Grand Cayman and Charles Kirkconnell International Airport (CKIA) on Cayman Brac.

What is the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower?

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a discreet but powerful symbol that helps Airport staff and fellow travellers to identify individuals who may need additional support. It can be worn in a variety of ways, such as a lanyard, pin badge or wristband. It allows people with non-visible disabilities to navigate the Airport with greater ease and confidence – without having to explain their condition.

Who Can Use the Sunflower?

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower programme is designed to support individuals with a wide range of hidden disabilities and conditions, including but not limited to:

  • Chronic illnesses
  • Learning disabilities
  • Sensory impairments
  • Mobility challenges
  • Mental health conditions
  • Neurological disorders
  • Cognitive conditions

By wearing the Sunflower , you can discreetly indicate that you may require extra time, patience, or support during your travel journey.

How to Get a Free Sunflower Lanyard or Wristband

Passengers who would like to use the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower can collect a free lanyard or wristband from designated CIAA staff members at ORIA and CKIA. Look for Airport staff and other personnel wearing the Sunflower Supporter lanyard or pin in key areas of the Airport, including check-in, security, and passenger assistance desks.
