CIAA Working to Improve Extended Security Wait Times Experienced at Grand Cayman Airport

17 April 2025

The Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) would like to remind the travelling public that all passengers entering the departure hall at Owen Roberts and Charles Kirkconnell International Airports, whether travelling domestically or internationally, are required to go through the passenger and cabin baggage security screening process.

Due to increased traffic volumes, the CIAA advises all passengers to arrive at Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA) at least three (3) hours prior to their departure time. This allows ample time for check-in, security screening, and boarding. Passengers are also reminded that ORIA is currently experiencing its annual peak travel period, with the busiest hours typically occurring between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

The CIAA understands that long queues are an inconvenience to passengers and sincerely apologises for any disruption to passengers’ travel plans. However, security screening is vital to maintaining the highest level of safety for everyone travelling through the Airports.

The CIAA will be conducting upgrades to the security equipment throughout 2025, which will result in more efficiency and faster processing time for passengers.

The CIAA remains committed to upholding the highest standards of security and safety at Owen Roberts and Charles Kirkconnell International Airports and will continue to work diligently to improve the passenger experience while ensuring the safety of the travelling public.

The CIAA appreciates the cooperation and understanding of its passengers during this time and extends its gratitude to the public and passengers for their ongoing support and patience.
