The Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA), which operates the Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA) on Grand Cayman and the Charles Kirkconnell International Airport (CKIA) on Cayman Brac, is proud to recognise that Ms. Ivis Matute, Customer Service Manager, has recently received her bachelor’s degree (BSc.) in Business Administration with Honours. She received her degree from the International College of the Cayman Islands (ICCI) at a graduation ceremony held on 28 May 2024 at First Baptist Church.
Ms. Matute completed her studies for a Bachelor of Science Degree at the International College of the Cayman Islands on a fully funded basis by the Cayman Islands Government. She began her studies in October 2022 with a successful completion in February 2024.
Ms. Matute’s degree required her to complete a multitude of courses including Biological Sciences, Fundamentals of Speech, Use of English Language I & II, World Literature, World Civilisation, General Psychology, Introduction to Sociology, Elementary Spanish I & II, Introduction to Business, Introduction to Accounting, Principles of Micro and Macroeconomics, Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Communication in Business and Report Writing, Marketing, Management, Business Finance, Business Law, Seminar in Leadership, Local Seminar, Human Development, Introduction to Web Programming, Business Entrepreneurship, Network Security, Statistics, and Principles of Research Methodology.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Ivis on her incredible accomplishment. I know that obtaining her degree while working full time was no easy task,” said CIAA Chief Commercial Officer Bianca Moore-Downey. “Her graduation is a reflection to her commitment and perseverance, and she has proven that she can overcome obstacles and challenges with resolve. I look forward to supporting her as she pursues her ongoing professional aspirations.”
Ms. Matute is a Sigma Beta Delta Honoree which is an international honour society that recognises and promotes academic excellence in business, management, and administration. By fostering high academic standards and providing various resources and opportunities, Sigma Beta Delta supports its members' growth and development in their professional and academic careers.
During the graduation ceremony, Ms. Matute had the honour of being selected as the Student Speaker. She delivered a heartfelt speech describing the experiences and accomplishments of the graduating class and expressing gratitude to everyone who helped them on their journey. She also received an award for the ‘Most Outstanding Capstone Project at the Undergraduate Level’ and the ‘Barbara Strain Pioneer Award for Institutional Service’.
“Completing my bachelor's degree has been a transformative journey filled with challenges and triumphs. I am immensely proud of this accomplishment, as it not only represents years of dedication and hard work but also the unwavering support of my friends and family. This achievement is a testament to my resilience and determination to succeed,” said Ms. Matute.
Ms. Matute joined the CIAA in November 2007 as a Receptionist and has held various roles within the Authority, including Administrative Assistant and Customer Service Officer.
