The Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA), which operates the Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA) on Grand Cayman and the Charles Kirkconnell International Airport (CKIA) on Cayman Brac, has resumed Airport Operations of Owen Roberts International Airport and Charles Kirkconnell International Airport on Thursday, 4 July 2024 at 3:00 p.m. following the ‘All Clear’ for the Cayman Islands on Hurricane Beryl.
After an extensive inspection at both Airport locations by the CIAA’s Operations team, we are pleased to advise that no significant damages were reported. Owen Roberts International Airport and Charles Kirkconnell International Airport are back to being fully operational.
The first flight expected to arrive at Owen Roberts International Airport this evening will be a Cayman Airways service KX107 from Miami, Florida, with an estimated time of arrival (ETA) of 6:40 p.m. There will be no domestic service or departures today. All normal flight operations will resume tomorrow, Friday, 5 July 2024.
During Hurricane Beryl's passage, a team of "Storm Riders" were stationed at Owen Roberts International Airport ensuring that the airport remained safe and secure throughout the inclement weather.
“Thanks to the team that was present at the airport terminal, we were able to promptly and thoroughly address any risks to the facility and determine its readiness ahead of reopening today. The fact that we have been able to return to regular airport operations expeditiously is largely in part to their excellent service over the past 24 hours, and the collaborative effort of the entire CIAA team and the teams of our committed airport partners.” said CIAA Chief Executive Officer Albert Anderson.
Mr. Anderson also thanked the Cayman Islands Fire Service for their efforts, commending them for working assiduously with the CIAA in clearing the airport’s runway of any debris to have it restored to safe conditions for flight operations.
The CIAA would like to express its gratitude to the public for their patience and understanding during this time, as ensuring the safety of both facilities for all airport users remain top priority.
Passengers are reminded to check directly with their airlines for the latest information on flight status.
